The James Morris School has been recognized by the White House for its community garden and fitness program. The school is following the White House Garden Initiative by working with the community to raise a vegetable and herb garden that is harvested by JMS families and senior citizens. The harvest is used in a September harvest luncheon at the school. KiDSMARATHON is a fitness program inspired and promoted by Rod Dixon, a New Zealand runner known for winning the New York City Marathon. KiDSMARATHON is an 8-week fitness education program that helps students to complete a full marathon (26.2 miles) with the final mile logged in June with other participating schools. This program follows the objectives of First Lady Michelle Obama’s First Move initiative to encourage children to get active and stay healthy. The JMS nutrition committee recently received a personal letter from Michelle Obama congratulating the school for its work. In the letter, she states, “With the right attitude, you can do anything!”
