WATERBURY – The 1972 Olympic bronze medal for the 1,500 meters was in the city Tuesday. It made stops at Chase Park House, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Waterbury and the Police Activities League.
The medal was escorted by the man who won it, Rod Dixon of New Zealand. The 1983 winner of the New York City Marathon, Dixon, 63, was here to promote his KidsMarathon program. Now in its 20th year, 10th in the United States, the KidsMarathon brings the joy of running to more than 50,000 boys and girls around the world each year. Watch the video from the Boys and Girls Club here. With more than 8,000 farmers’ markets nationwide and counting, it’s clear we love them, and everyone is raving about them. Here’s what top foodies around the country are saying about their favorites. Produced and compiled by Grace Elkus and Tim Cebula, Cooking Light Magazine "Litchfield Hills Farm-Fresh Market is my go-to market. This is the most fertile area in Connecticut. And the farmers who sell here don’t have huge production, but they have really good quality produce. The berries are fantastic—blackberries, blueberries, gooseberries, white, red, and black currants. And the heirloom tomatoes are some of the best I’ll ever see.” — Chef Joel Viehland, Community Table, Washington, CT Don't miss: heirloom tomatoes from Wild Carrot Farm. Last weekend we had the first two ‘final mile celebrations’ in Cheshire and Glastonbury as close to 800 runners completed their marathon! We have seven more celebrations to go and nearly 6,000 runners will cross the finish line this year in CT KiDSMARATHON 2015. Many thanks for your continued support of this awesome program. And, yes, next year we expect it to grow even more. We are already talking with many parties both in schools and the corporate community about 2016. In the meantime thanks for your support as we keep CT KiDS Movin’!!! |
